Kenneth A. Stump is Of Counsel with Kastner Westman & Wilkins, which is an affiliate of FordHarrison LLP.

Ken Stump’s childhood friend’s parents first planted the seed of pursuing a law career at 13 years old. In the midst of an argument between Ken and his friend’s parents, Ken was apparently presenting a strong case when his friend’s father interrupted and asked, “Are you going to become an attorney someday?”

A law career remained in the back of his mind throughout high school. It continued at Boston University despite taking a non-traditional path to law school by studying business accounting, a subject in which he had a tremendous amount of interest.

His first job out of law school involved representing workers’ compensation claimants, which he did for about one year. From there, he transitioned to the defense side with multiple firms in the Cleveland and Akron markets, and ultimately started representing employers around the state of Ohio in workers’ compensation matters.

Every day in his KWW practice, he vigorously defends his management clients in Industrial Commission hearings and state courts on issues involving original and additional allowance of claims, alleged safety violations, and fatality claims. He not only applies his 20-plus years of practical experience in employer-side workers’ compensation law, but he also pulls from the unique experience he gained that first year when he learned first-hand how the opposition evaluates and strategizes on a claim.

Further, he draws on the discipline, competitiveness and perseverance traits he first developed as a high school athlete, competing in both track and cross country at a state level, and competing in swimming from age 7 through his high school years.
